After a few challenging and eye-opening experiences during deployment, I realized how unprepared I truly was for certain real-world situations. While the Navy provided basic firearms training, it was only enough to get by — not enough to excel when it mattered most.

When I returned home, I made the decision to take my firearms education into my own hands. With limited resources, I started small — just one range day per month. A year later, I was introduced to USPSA, and my skillset accelerated dramatically. Competitive shooting not only improved my accuracy and efficiency, but it also gave me the confidence and capability I wish I'd had before deployment. Those skills directly translated into carrying a CCW and becoming proficient across multiple shooting platforms.
